Three to four years ago, I could almost count on seeing sexual activity every time I went to Sauvie Is. Monday afternoons especially for some reason seemed to bring out the lovers, but weekends had action too. In the past few years, though, things have calmed down a lot. There was a cell of swingers operating down there, but not anymore.
Anyway, go to Sauvie Island in the spring (April to June) and on holiday weekends when vacationing couples from California and elsewhere are likely to be present. But don't go
if there are big events in town (Rose festival) or during basketball tournaments if the Blazers are playing :) I think its still a good beach to see girl groups, but spring is best. By July and Aug, the beach seems reduced to the older regulars.
I've been to most of the nude beaches on the wests coast and Sauvie Is ranks as one of the best in my mind these days. Forget S. Cal. Bay area beaches are comparable. Wreck Beach (BC) is the best. Sauvie Is isn't as busy in the past few years as it used to be, but I think gawker activity is lower too. Also, be aware of the water level in the Columbia River and consult the paper for levels. Its not worth the 30 mile round trip from Portland if the beach is flooded :) High water if its not too high can make for a more crowded, intimate beach experience. Some prefer that as I do.
