Hi Brooklyn. Thanks for the info. The only problem is that I don't own a bike, and I rather not rent one for that purpose. I didn't know that Seastreak had a ferry that goes to Highlands on weekdays, though. Are there any cabs that hang out around the ferry stop? If so, that would be a possibility. Also, I'm looking at the Seastreak website, and the page which lists the schedule for the Highlands route (http://www.seastreak.com/SeaStreak/FaresandSchedules/Manhattandeparturesweekday.htm) seems to indicate that most of the ferries don't even stop at the SHBM/Highlands stop. Am I just missing something here? Thanks again.

: : I know that the ferries are a great way to get to Gunnison without a car during the weekends, but is there any way to get there by public transporation during a weekday when the ferries aren't operating? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

: Well, do you like to Bicycle? If you don't mind a ride, there are 2 ways to do it. Seastreak runs ferries to Highlands, which is just before the Hook in Jersey. From there it's about a 4 mile ride to Gunnison. Personally, I don't like the expense of the ferries, and I like the excersize of the ride, so I ride from Red Bank, NJ, which is about a 12 mile ride. Makes the water that much nicer when you get there!

: Just fill your water bottles before you leave, and expect a headwind as you ride south!

: If you're interested in my Red Bank route, I can post more detailed instructions.
