I do agree people waste time by not researching other posts or doing their own research first - web is choc full of stuff.
Your follow-up response, though, added some insightful stuff I hadn't heard.
: Me? Dr. So-Cal?!?! Dude, I wish! Nobody can top the good Doctor. The first post in this thread was my lame ass attempt to satirize the rash of nasty postings on this board in recent months. I should just stick to writing normal informative posts, and leave the humor up to trained professionals, like Dr. So-Cal.
: I did go back to January 2005 Hot Tub and found a post of mine about Key West. I would also direct Florida Guy down to a threat titled "Eden" which gives a few more tips on Key West action. The poster "Kev" reposted his message about Key West, which really helped us when we went there.
: The original poster in Jan. 2005 asked "Are there any nude beaches in Key West, FL.?" Here is my answer:
: Let's just get this out of the way right now. You think (like my girlfriend and myself did) that because Key West is an island in the Atlantic Ocean, there are probably some great beaches, right? Sorry to disappoint, but there is only one beach main beach (Smathers) on Key West and it is man-made, and probably one of the sorriest excuses for a beach. (Some of the larger hotels also have little man-made beaches also on the water front). Smathers is about 10 to 20 feet long and about 1 km wide. Go about 5 to 10 paces in the water and you will find yourself covered in slimy mud.
: As I was told by one of the boat guides, the word "Key" in Key West is from the French word "Cayo" or rock island. Because of the island's structure, it does not have natural beaches. So if you want a beach, go to Haulover.
: But don't let the absence of a nude beach prevent you from having any nude fun in Key West. There are three places that we've been that allow nudism:
: Atlantic Shores (pool area): AS is a hotel on the south side of the island and on Duval Street (where all the bars and resturaunts are). The pool area (also has docks facing the ocean) allows nude sunbathing but asks people to cover the crotch when walking around (because neighbors complain). Nice place to catch some sun. I should mention that AS has a gay and lesbian crowd. Some people are put off by that, but we thought it was great because it kept the frat boy idiots crowd out.
: Naked Lunch: This is an open-air cafe that allows people to be naked. The last time we there (it was about a month before Fantasy Fest) the place was almost dead. I wonder how this place was at Fantasy Fest. Anyone?
: Garden of Eden: On the third floor of the Hogsbreath on Duval Street, and allows full nudity (no sex though). Great place and nice folks running it. You can sun there in the afternoons if you like or party later in the evenings. I would suggest that if you go there, do it after 10pm. By this time, most of the tourist yokels are gone and the real party starts. Usually it takes one person to get naked and people are a little better about shedding clothes.
: I hope this helps.
