Some more tips on Edan and a BIG belated THANKS to my man Kev. Me and my girlfriend went about a month later, and if it wasn't for Kev's post, we would have killed each other from bordem.
We caught the tail end of Hurricane Jeanne while we were in Key West. No major problems just a lot of rain and wind, meaning that most of the fishing, jetskiing and snokeling is shut down. When the T-storms hit, Key West goes into hybernation, however a few places were open to fun. Thanks to Kev, we took his advice on Garden of Eden and we went back for the next five days (we were laid over for an extra three).
I would add a few things to Kev's post about the Gargen of Eden.
1: It is not a really big place, it is a roof top. To use the bathrooms, you have to get dressed and walk down to the second or first floor. NOt a big deal, but do remember that, they are strict about the nudity outside the garden.
2: If you have some issues about gawking, don't go before 10:00 p.m. Most of the slack jaws are there then, and that is also when some of the Key West "pub crawls" end their tours. (Like Kev, I got naked, my girlfriend wasn't when a tour went through -- I stood there like a wax museam statute and people passed by me blankly).
3: Someone said this once on these boards, but I really found it true. Once one person gets naked, then more will. The really ironic thing that I found is that usually the men will get naked first, but more women will follow (and more often than not, with their boyfriend's / husband's disapproval!)
4: I would disagree with Kev about some of the reactions of men v. women. After a few drinks, some of the women aren't afraid at looking at men's "packages" On the other hand, some of the men (especially the Beavis and Butthead types) would get pretty intimidated with some of the naked women around.
5: Mind you, not every night was a nudist fantasy come true. The first night we were there, about 10 people were in the bar, and I was the only one naked (the girlfriend was topless). The rest were mostly locals stopping by for a beer. Everyone was quite nice, but there are slow nights even at the garden of eden.
As for the other places, they were exactly as Kev said. Although Naked Lunch is quite nice, there was hardly anyone there. We were going to get naked in there, but there were some drunk frat boys playing pool that creeped us out so we left. In the three times we went to Naked Lunch, I never saw more than 10 people in there.
