I basically agree with Fingers about what he said. Especially the crowds in the 700 and 800 block. Here are a couple of other things to consider.

First of all, this is an opportunity for your wife, not you. Don't even think of showing anything below your belt unles you want to be a guest of the NOPD. Fair or not, it's the rules and there is zero tolerance for dicks on the street.

Second, how much does your wife enjoy being touched? If she flashes in the street, there will be hands on her. Right or wrong, it's just reality. This problem can be mostly avoided if you do the flashing on a balcony but she will still be groped on the street.

Third, think about how much is enough. Mardi Gras on Bourbon is basically a drunken party with flashing. I've seen some women get on a balcony, flash for a couple of minutes just for the thrill to have done it and then be through. I've seen others be out there all day for three days. If she jut wants the thrill, I suggest going to NO at some other time later in the spring or in the fall when the weather is nicer and the prices are lower. There are big parades to be seen on Canal Street. How many parades do you want to see? When do they start looking alike?

As Fingers said, NO is great for food. Do your research and make your restaurant reservations now. It's also a great place for live music. From the street musicians to the clubs that may have live music 16 hours a day. Depending on your lifestyle, there's also Colette, which is one of the nicer clubs in the country.

If you can get around the hotel minimum stay stuff, I'd recommend ariving on Sunday and leaving on Wednesday or Thursday if you want to see Mardi Gras without the hordes of kids. If you really want the party, arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday or Monday.

If you want to see the real, local Mardi Gras, find someone who lives in nO and has the connections to get you into the local private balls and parties. Those events are the real Mardi Gras, the stuff that happens on Bourbon street is just about making money from the tourists.
