Wednesday should be a great day at The Hook. Its a completely different place after Labor Day. For one thing there are no more lifeguards. So rafts and other floats are allowed...along with dogs. I guess the crowds aren't as overwhelming although the Sunday after Labor Day the lot was still full, and closed by the Rangers in the afternoon when I was leaving. Nice weekdays shouldn't be any problem.
For some strange reason, after Labor Day, a lot of couples, couples who look like they've never been to Sandy Hook before (tan lines) show up on the beach. Where were these people all summer long? Its quite interesting. I saw one couple come on the beach with bicycle helmets (must've been biking the park) just stroll down to the water and strip down. Went out and took a dip, then left. You see couples come on the beach walking their dog, strip down and then take a hike down the beach naked. Its a great scene.....and the days are numbered.
