I grew up on a nude beach, in MA. It was nothing going down to the beach with my birthday suit. Later it became clear to us, my sisters and I. that that there were some people who became arroused by being nude in front of other people, including kids, like us. We found them quite unsettling, but alas, there was nothing we could do as they became sexual, both men and women, around us. We wore suits from July-August but every other time we skinny dipped in the morning before school and after.
As far as Lighthouse beach (I live in Manhattan now), I would walk down to Kismit if I were wanting privacy. It is a family community and well policed by the people who love it, also only a 1/2 mile walk up the island. I would also consider Gunnison, I like it much more than Light House, it is easy access from Manhattan and they have areas that are designated (Life Guard Station #2 is Singles, couples and Elderly #3 is Swingers and ? and #4 is gay) This way you can choose your area. There are a lot of gay males however, so if that makes you grossed out, this is not the place for you, but any nude beach will not be the place for you if that is the case.
It has been my experience that people go to a nude beach, adults, to watch and be watched. They are, as much as we hate to admit it, voyer or exhibitionist. Yes, we all agree that we truly love the freedom of being without a wet bathing suit and enjoy the breeze on our privates, but the bottom line is, we enjoy seeing and being seen, if we are honest, truly honest. That being said, it does not permit us to masturbate or sport an erection in public, so I am in total agreement with you on that.
Check out Sandy Hook, I love it as there are nice people and it is easy to get to. Easier that driving...
Hope you find more peace at the beach

: : Very disapointed at Lighthouse Beach, Robert Moses Park NY. The beach is great BUT the amount of single guys to woman this pass wed. was atrocious! What gives???? I went with my girlfriend, and we sat down in a fairly secluded section.... only a few people around, and within 30min we were surrounded by single creepy guys who were pretending to be sleeping, at times gawking, and 2 idiots touching themselves (one w/ blue bandana). It was so bad we decided to leave. My girlfriend was digusted and pissed off that these idiots had the nerve to think their behavior was acceptable. NOW she never wants to go back. I don't blame her.
: : We both accept people looking. Thats part of being on a nude beach and its sometimes fun BUT NOT gawking or sitting so close that its SO obvious that you are there to "perv out" only. Then you have these single man "trollers". Walking up and down the beach, pretending to be looking at the angle of the sun or faking a phone call, etc etc, all the time looking at any female. Like a deer caught in headlights. I can't believe these guys are that freaking stupid! Please bring a woman or don't go at all!
: : We have been to Robert Moses before and never had this bad a problem. I hope the beach does not get this bad rep. but I'm sure we are not the only ones to encounter this problem.

: I'm very please with the beach. My boyfriend and I have been going for a few weeks now and we don't mind the gawking, in fact it's arousing. Personally, I believe we are all looking but acting as if we aren't.
