Subject: Sunday & Monday before Mardi Gras?

Just wondering, are the Sunday & Monday before Mardi Gras active and crowded?

Re: Sunday & Monday before Mardi Gras?

Fat Tuesday falls on February 21st this year.  If you are referring to Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, yes, very busy.  I shoot the entire content for MardiFlashers from late Thursday night through Fat Tuesday each year.  The busiest day is Saturday, though sometimes Saturday night is so crowded that it’s dangerous to be on section of Bourbon Street when the crowd gets too compressed.  The college crowd comes in Friday night and leaves Sunday.  Monday, Luni Gras, has a slightly older crowd and some of the business people from New Orleans have parties on Bourbon Street.  Fat Tuesday is a party all unto itself.  I’ve not been the weekend before that, but I hear that it is good then as well.  The first parades will roll on February 4th and continue through Fat Tuesday.

This live cam can give you an idea of what’s happening on Bourbon Street (check it out Friday and Saturday evenings):

Have fun and be safe!
